WHY T.OT CAMP?
As a school based occupational therapist, I have had the pleasure of working with students with varying needs by strategically analyzing the barriers each individual faces, and using evidenced based occupational therapy interventions and strategies to help them meet their goals!
One thing I’ve consistently noticed was how these crucial pre-academic fine motor skills such as pencil grasp, scissor skills, and letter formation are not necessarily TAUGHT in ways that allow every student to succeed! Countless of observations of classrooms have shown that teachers may power through lessons with an expectation that all students will eventually follow suit. However, there are some students who need a more strategic, whole body / multi-sensory approach to learning these foundational skills!
So I wondered: What would happen if I utilized the same evidenced based occupational therapy fine motor and sensorimotor strategies with children who do not necessarily qualify for school based occupational therapy services, but are showing a need for intervention?
The Verdict: T.OT Fine Motor and Sensorimotor Camps have shown amazing growth and gains in each child!
The Bottom Line:

At the start of the program, each T.OT had individually tailored goals that were created on the first day of camp after their present level of abilities were determined.

During each session, the T.OT worked on developing their fine motor skills, sensory processing abilities, motor planning (praxis) abilities, and more in order to work their way towards their goal.

At the end of the camp, each T.OT achieved their goals with so much pride and confidence!
