"Best Friend Letters" is what I say when I cue kiddos to space adequately between each letter in a word! 
 
To help them understand the difference between fingerspacing, I'll say:
 
"You want to be close to your best friend... BUT, we need to have personal space! (aka. don't sit on your best friend.)" 
 
Tip: Use a WIKI STIK or a thin yarn to help them gauge if the space between each word is just right!
